“ We were put into groups / families working in a factor producing shoes. We had to cut out paper shoes, add a brand log and sell our finished ‘product’. We got some money, but while we were working, tax collectors came to our table and took lots of money. Money lenders would come around and help us with our earnings, but there was a catch. Every time, we borrowed money ,we would have to pay them 15% more back. If we couldn't pay them back, we would be in debt.
Every time we couldn't pay, one person in our 'family' would suffer. I found this game very significant and useful. It very entertaining but also a bit stressful to do.
We could really feel how nerve-wrecking it must be for these people having to work all week, just so they could feed their children and send them to school.
