Year 11 Support

GCSEs are a key important step in your child's education, and are not something that can be prepared for the night before. Instead we talk about GCSEs and Year 11 being a bit like training for a marathon.

This page aims to provide you, as parents, with everything that you need to support your child throughout their GCSEs.

Intervention

Exam intervention sessions are designed to offer targeted support to students in order to maximize their potential and ensure they are well-prepared for their upcoming examinations. These sessions are tailored to address specific areas of challenge and provide additional practice and guidance.

Benefits of Exam Intervention

  • Personalized Support: Our intervention sessions are structured to address individual learning needs, providing focused attention to each student.
  • Enhanced Understanding: Students have the opportunity to deepen their understanding of key concepts and improve their grasp on challenging topics.
  • Boosted Confidence: Through guided practice and expert guidance, students gain confidence in their abilities, which can positively impact their performance in exams.
  • Improved Results: Research has shown that students who actively participate in intervention sessions tend to achieve higher grades in their final examinations.

After school sessions typically take place between 3:05pm and 4:15pm.

Students are invited and can check which sessions they are invited to via the SIC. Parents you should have been emailed a timetable for your child's sessions at the start of the year. These are then updated in January following our Novmeber Mock exams.

Additional sessions are also run in the school holidays which students are again invited to. Timetables are shared with students and parents prior to the holidays

Revision

Revision is a crucial part to your child succeeding and reaching their potential in their GCSEs, and we talk about revision being a bit like "training" for a marathon, in that it:

- It needs to be done little and often

- Can't simply be done the night before, but needs to be built up over time.

To support that we recommend that students should be revising for 1 hour and 30 minutes each day after school, revising the 3 subjects they have had that day for 30 minutes each.

We advise students to complete a revision timetable using the template below.

Revision Template Example

During the holidays our advise is that students should either:

a) Again revise for at least 90 minutes per day (either 3 x subjects for 30 minutes each)

b) Revise for 90 minutes per day but by doing 1 past paper a day

c) Follow their normal school timetable, revising when they would have had lessons between 9am and 3pm, stopping for break and lunch as per the school day, and then having free time from 3pm onwards.
