English as an Additional Language
The EAL Department focuses on raising awareness of the needs and strengths of EAL students throughout the school. All staff at Bonus Pastor are teachers of language and are therefore committed to taking action to ensure that all students achieve academic success, particularly for students for whom English is an additional language and who may need additional support in accessing the curriculum.
EAL students can attend the EAL Homework Club on Thursdays after school until 4 p.m. for additional support. At EAL Homework Club, students are able to meet other students who speak additional languages, complete their homework, and engage in activities aimed at improving their literacy skills. Furthermore, students can receive instant verbal feedback and tips on improving their written work, as well as having their work spellchecked and proofread before handing it in to their subject teachers.
At Bonus Pastor 150 students speak English as an additional language and those that are confident in their home language may be entered in to sit their home language at GCSE.
